The Journey of Tajji: From Kingston to the World

Welcome to the world of Tajji, where music meets art in a vibrant tapestry of creativity. Rooted in the infectious, steady rhythms of Modern Dancehall and Reggae Fusion, Tajji delivers a sound that seamlessly bridges the gap between laid-back island vibes and a sharp, digital urban edge.

Driven by total creativity, Tajji treats his music as an immersive experience—pairing his evocative tracks with high-quality photography, striking visual aesthetics, and an exclusive merchandise collection that transforms his sound into a tangible lifestyle.

Roots & Early Innovations

Born Maurice Cooper in Franklin Town, East Kingston, Jamaica, Tajji was raised by his single mother, Marva Barrett. His musical barriers were broken early on at Excelsior High School, where his natural gift for songwriting and ability to create music for any occasion quickly turned his teachers and peers into his biggest motivators.

Growing up in Franklin Town brought a major turning point: dancehall legend Spragga Benz lived in the community and became a vital mentor. In 2006, Tajji presented his first demo CD to Spragga Benz, who connected him with Arrows Recording Studio. There, Tajji embedded himself with I-Octane and the Red Square Team.

While at Arrows, Tajji’s songwriting prowess flourished. He penned the collaboration track “Hurt Me” for I-Octane and Spragga Benz, and went on to co-write several of I-Octane’s massive hits, including:

  • “Mama”
  • “My Life”
  • “Lose a Friend”

In 2008, I-Octane introduced Tajji to producer/engineer Ricardo “Red Bull” Reid of Global Studios Innovation, who produced Tajji’s first official single, “Top a wi game”, officially launching his career on the airwaves.

Chart-Topping Success & Subkonshus

By 2011, Tajji amplified his output, recording 12 tracks in a single year. This era birthed “Ready Fi Mine” (Global Studios Innovations) and “Fallin” (Clap 7 Music / Frenz 4 Real).

His drive caught the attention of Subkonshus music, leading to the single “So wi Step”. Following a medley video with the Subkonshus team, the track rocketed to Number 1 on the music charts in Kenya.

As momentum built, Tajji released “Dat Dem Say” and teamed up with Spragga Benz for the heavy hitting “World Wide” on the School Fee Riddim. When his mother suffered a stroke, her recovery inspired the deeply moving independent single and video “Best Friend” (shot by Steezy Fresh of RD Studios), celebrating her sacrifices and his vow to fuel his hustle for her.

By late 2012, under the official management of Andre Gourzong (Gourzong Music), Tajji dropped his debut mixtape Ready fi Mine Volume 1 alongside the Mad Copper Production “All Out”. This momentum culminated in February 2013 with the massive, head-turning collaboration with Subkonshus CEO Konshens, “My Time Now”.

Sonic Evolution & Global Duality

Tajji’s musical identity thrives on a stunning duality. He effortlessly balances high-energy, gritty street anthems and motivational club tracks celebrating the hustle (“Clean Cash”), with deeply reflective commentary on life, smooth atmospheric R&B, and rap-infused tracks like “Girls World” (with Jlawremone).

His recent catalog showcases an artist constantly expanding his boundaries:

  • “You Can Call” (Prod. by CJ Chemist & G.I. Productions)
  • “Get By” (Prod. by Cashflow Records)
  • “G-Swag” ft. Kenzic (Prod. by Eastlink Productions)
  • “Nuh Regard” (Recorded 2022, Prod. by Nolanding Music)
  • “Real” ft. Navino (Recorded 2023, Prod. by Marvoni Records / Topknotch Messi’Jah Music)

The US Transition & Next Chapter: The Debut EP

Transitioning from Jamaica to the United States presented its challenges, temporarily disrupting his consistency as he adapted to a new environment. However, 2025 marked a powerful, fully-focused resurgence in the studio.

This prolific wave of creativity yielded heavy new releases, including:

  • “Sci-Fi” (Prod. by J’Dore Records)
  • “Honesty” (Prod. by Marvoni Records / Topknotch Messi’Jah Music)
  • “All Night” (Prod. by Marvoni Records / Topknotch Messi’Jah Music)

“Music is my escape, it’s the way I express myself and it will always be a part of me,” Tajji shares. “The greatest thing is to hear my music on the airways and see my videos playing. I do music because of my mother; I saw her struggles and I promised never to make her struggle again.”

Currently, Tajji is locked in the studio putting the final touches on his highly anticipated debut EP. Backed by a striking visual aesthetic and an evolution of sound, fans can prepare for an upcoming wave of brand-new music, cinematic music videos, and exclusive interviews.
